The bohemian neighborhood of Vila Madalena, often called simply "Vila", is home to independent fashion stores, casual cafes and contemporary art galleries. There's a vibrant street art scene throughout the area, especially at Beco do Batman, a spot that has become an open-air gallery for stencils and colorful murals. A cool crowd frequents the laid-back bistros and bars, and the live music venues host soul, funk and samba performances.

The neighborhood has a station with the same name. Vila Madalena is a station on Line 2–Green of the São Paulo Metro. Inaugurated in 1998, it is located at Praça Américo Jacomino, with access from Rua Heitor Penteado. It is connected to a bus terminal, and is located between the districts of Pinheiros to the south and Perdizes to the north.
